Defining IP
A static IP address is a number that gives your Internet connection its
own identity on the Net. Without a static IP you are a virtual
unknown. This means that you have a dynamic IP address, one that changes
every time you connect. A static IP address is your permanent address online.
It allows other servers to recognize you and it gives them an address to
go to if they want access to your specific connection. Compare this to
call display on a regular phone. Every time you call, the same number shows
up, letting the caller know it’s you.

Application of Static IP
There are a number of reasons why a static IP might be necessary. In today’s
virtual office place, those people who work from home, might
need a static IP in order to access the applications located on their company’s
server. A static IP is like having an office within the walls
of your company, even when you’re hundreds of miles away. And the
company that an employee is trying to gain access to, would need a static
IP in order for their employee to locate them.
